Stabilizing a global learning platform

A widely used online education platform had been built years earlier and left on an end-of-life stack. It had no backups and nobody responsible for it, and every change was a risk.

Before touching anything, we wrote tests, since there were almost none. Then we worked through a decade of skipped upgrades, fixed dozens of long-standing bugs, and added daily backups, error monitoring, containers, and an automated deploy pipeline to replace manual releases.

We moved production to modern managed hosting without interrupting the classrooms that rely on it. The client kept us on to look after it.
